KD8GTH My name is Barbara and until a couple of years ago I never would have thought I'd have an amateur radio license. I knew my husband had his license, but it was one afternoon when severe weather threatened and I heard some chatter on his old 2m handheld that piqued my curiosity. The folks belonged to a local group called SkyWarn. Having had a keen interest in severe weather my whole life, I was hooked. Over the next year or so, I studied for and passed the test for the Technician license. We bought radios for our trucks and now, whenever the sky turns dark and the wind begins to blow, you'll find us out monitoring the situation and reporting into Net Control. Right now, I don't have the inclination to attempt the General license, but I did take the test for, and become a member of, our local RACES group. Last month, we were out doing damage assessments caused by flooding rains. I work full time for a healthcare company and in my spare time I knit, spin, weave, do lampwork, play some golf, ride my maxi-scooter, do some practice at the target range. And, of course, monitor my radio.
I have since removed my Periwinkle Designs web site due to financial constrictions. However, I hope to recreate them here - so please keep checking back. | ||
